Who we are and what we do

Even Better If is not a run-of-the-mill tuition agency. For a start, we are less an ‘edu-business’ than an educational co-operative, established with the aim of offering great teaching to students from all backgrounds.

Our offer is a simple one: exemplary tuition delivered online or (where possible) in person, by highly qualified and extremely experienced practitioners who know exactly what they are doing. No fads or gimmicks. Just whatever we know works.

Central to this is the quality of our tutors. All hold at least one degree in their main subject, with the majority having also been employed in relevant leadership positions. Several have Masters or Doctoral degrees, and all possess Qualified Teacher Status achieved through certified postgraduate training and many years of excellent classroom practice.

With a wealth of experience gained in state and independent schools, Even Better If’s tutors are adept at forging positive relationships with students across the age and ability ranges. Our pastoral experience, combined with our subject knowledge and pedagogic nous, enables us to tailor our teaching to suit individual needs, so that you can be assured of a bespoke tuition experience.

How we can help

Upper Primary

Our support programmes in English and Maths have been proven to help close gaps in knowledge and skill, while our extension programmes stretch the most able who are ready to work at significantly higher levels. Informed by our experience of both the primary and secondary sectors, our KS2 offer enables pupils of all abilities to thrive in their current key stage, while preparing them for the next.

Secondary

All of Even Better If’s tutors have extensive experience in the secondary sector and are exceptionally well-placed to provide tuition in their specialisms. Subject to tutor availability, we currently offer the following subjects up to, and including, A level:

School entrance exams and university applications

Secondary

With experience in devising and marking entrance exams, Edu-care’s tutors can prepare students for:

  • Year 7 and 9 entry tests in English, Maths and reasoning skills;
  • subject specific exams for sixth-form entry.

Tertiary

Even Better If’s tutors are highly experienced in all aspects of the university application process: wider study programmes, compelling personal statements and interview practice. We also prepare students for university entrance exams, including UCAT/BMAT, LNAT and Oxbridge

Enrichment/Gap Year

Timetabling constraints sometimes force students to drop a much-loved subject. Even Better If creates personalised enrichment programmes that enable tutees to maintain their interest without the pressure of exams.

We also devise gap year tuition programmes of various lengths, to ensure that your child is university-ready. Where possible, we will tailor the offer to their proposed degree subject.

Tertiary

Several of us are are experienced tutors of adults, including university students. Our androgogic knowledge means that we are adept at modifying and extending our teaching practices to support tertiary-level students.

We are also able to proof-read and redraft dissertations up to Doctoral level. This can range from checking the accuracy of spelling, punctuation and grammar, to editorial and structural input that enhances the clarity of your writing, and the cogency of your argument. Our tutors will provide you with written feedback that, while detailed, stays within the bounds of permissible intervention.

Committed to cost effectiveness

Pro-rata fees

We are happy to alter the duration of lessons and, therefore, the amount we charge. For example, if a 45-minute lesson is more suitable for your child, you will be invoiced for three-quarters of our hourly rate; if you require a 90-minute lesson, the fee will be one and a half times of the same.

Our commitment to pro rata charging is another feature that sets us apart from other agencies. Many charge registration fees and round up costs for partial lessons to the next hour (e.g charging a two-hour fee for a 90-minute lesson). With Even Better If, not only is there no registration fee; you also only pay for the actual amount of teaching time received.

Our proof-reading and redrafting services are competitively priced, with different rates for different levels of input. Should you need varying degrees of intervention, our chapter-by-chapter charges, and willingness to read as much of your documents as you choose, minimise overall costs.

Small-group tuition

Should your child’s needs overlap significantly with those of any other tutees in the same key stage and with comparable needs, we will offer you the option of small-group tuition (online only) at a lower cost than its one-to-one counterpart. Please note that we will only suggest this if, in our professional judgement, it will not jeopardise your child’s progress.

Helping you to help others

At Even Better If, we are passionate about extending the reach of our services. To this end, a significant percentage of every full-price fee goes into a dedicated fund that subsidises tuition for students from verifiably low-income families.

Where small-group tuition is feasible, our primary concern is to match students who are academically compatible, regardless of background. As a result, your child may have the opportunity to work remotely with students outside their usual social circle.

We also encourage our tutees to participate in sponsored activities, the proceeds of which are donated to education charities working with less-privileged students in the UK and overseas.
